Many fans in Chicago may wake up to this news and ask themselves, "What the hell was Kenny thinking?"
But given market trends (i.e. the Cubs handing Ted Lily a 4 year, $40M deal, which was so stomach turning it sent GM Jim Hendry to the Hospital. Read More Here) did Kenny make this move to free up some money down the road to keep the remainder of his staff in Chicago? Is he trying to free up cash for a big move this winter?
The reasons behind this trade won't come to light for some time. But I for one like it. By making this move, Williams has shown that he's not going to stand pat and rely on the players who lead the Sox to the promised land in '05. He is continuing to make the team younger.
And another thing to remember, Don Cooper is a top notch pitching coach. This Floyd kid has been rumored to have some control problems. Kenny's already come out and said that with some work with Don Cooper; he can correct his delivery problem and get this kid to the next level.
I like the aggressiveness of this move. They did little last off season, with the exception of the Thome deal and it didn't help them repeat. I just hope this move is the start of a big off-season.

The Cubs are the Paris Hiltons of MLB. Spending way too much money on shit they don't need. They need to be more like Britney Spear and learn when to throw away the trash.
Woods and Prior have been involved with the minors so long, you'd think they'd be arrested for sexual predation. Seriously, I can think of a lot better things to with the millions thy're getting -- like making sure chunks of stadium don't plummet from the upper deck into drunken fans.
It pains me to be a Cubs fan and see what Hendry does year after year. If he used the same tactics in real estate he does on baseball, he'd have a lien out against his spleen trying to throw change at the repo man that's about to take his house away.
As much as I hate the Sox, I admire Kenny Williams. He's got his shit together.
Pinella's most assuredly pushing Hendry to spend the dough, 'cuase what does he care? He's got a two year contract for a few million...a nice retirement gift from a GM that's too stupid to realize he just got shafted.
The Lily deal just earned every MLB pitching agent an extra couple bills in commission. Too bad the surplus can't be used to hire a SWAT team to bag Hendry and drop him somewhere off the coast of Sri Lanka, where he can't fuck up the Cubs any more than he has.
